Police File Written Allegation Against Juvenile Accused of Robbery at State High Homecoming Dance

State College police have filed a written allegation against a juvenile accused of committing robbery, theft and harassment at the State College Area High School homecoming dance earlier this month.

Written allegations are filed in place of criminal charges to begin juvenile delinquency procedures.

Police said in a statement on Thursday that the juvenile is accused of forcibly taking an item from another person during the Oct. 2 dance at the high school’s North Field. The case will be handled by Centre County Juvenile Court.

It was one of three alleged incidents that caused administrators to end the dance a half hour early, though police could not substantiate the other two.

“Unfortunately, the severity of the reported incidents led to this decision being made out of concern, caution and safety,” Principal Laura Tobias wrote in a message to families on Oct. 3.

According to police, investigations into an alleged fight and an alleged incident of indecent exposure “failed to produce sufficient evidence, or witness collaboration, to result in any police action being taken on those matters.”

The school district also is conducting its own disciplinary review of each of the alleged incidents.
