An apparently intoxicated 55-year-old is suspected of having driven himself Friday to the College Township Wal-Mart, where he attempted to steal jeans and several knives, State College police said.

Officers got a call about the man shortly after 3 a.m., according to a police report. He appeared intoxicated at the Wal-Mart, 373 Benner Pike, where he put on a pair of the store’s jeans and tried to take three folding knives, the report says.

Before he left the premises, according to the report, the man cut himself on one of the knives, bleeding on the jeans and ‘all over the store.’

The merchandise he intended to steal was valued between $50 and $200, police said.

The man’s name was not immediately released Friday. Police said he will be charged with retail theft and related offenses via summons.

He may be charged with DUI, as well, police said.
