A man who was found unconscious in an alley last weekend had overdosed on alcohol and stopped breathing before being placed on a ventilator, according to State College Police.
Police responded at 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of an unconscious male at the intersection of D Alley and Wren Alley. The 19-year-old University of Massachusetts student ‘was extremely intoxicated,’ according to police. An investigation found he had been drinking vodka and had a blood-alcohol concentration of .490, a level which goes beyond the range for significant risk of death according to the National Institutes of Health.
The man was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center where he stopped breathing. He was placed on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit and resuscitated. The student was later moved out of the ICU and it is believed he will make a full recovery.
Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact the State College Police Department at (814) 234-7150, by email or by submitting an anonymous tip through the department’s website.
‘The State College Police Source Investigation Project (SIP) continues to educate students and other community residents about alcohol related laws,’ Lt. Keith Robb said in a release. ‘In addition, the Project remains vigilant in enforcing all alcohol related laws such as DUI, underage drinking, public drunkenness and furnishing alcohol to minors.’
