With a couple inches of snow accumulating Tuesday morning, several Centre Region municipalities are reminding residents to remove their cars from the streets for snow removal.

College, Harris and Patton Townships all declared snow emergencies, meaning vehicles must be removed from public streets to facilitate snow removal.

Patton Township’s announcement said vehicles must be removed by 1 p.m., at which time police may begin issuing tickets. In Harris Township, vehicles must be removed by 5:40 p.m or face ticketing. College Township said vehicles should be removed from the streets immediately or be subject to a citation.

Ferguson Township also reminded residents that when snow accumulation reaches 2 inches or more, vehicles may not be parked on the streets, and vehicles that remain may be ticketed or towed.

A snow emergency was not yet in effect for State College Borough, which may issue a snow emergency when depth reaches 3 inches or more.

Penn State declared a ‘midnight clear’ for the University Park campus. Parking is prohibited at all faculty and staff surface parking lots on campus from midnight to 7 a.m. for snow removal. Vehicles may be parked in campus parking decks (except roof level) and specific spaces in certain other lots listed here.

Earlier on Tuesday, PennDOT reduced maximum speeds to 45 miles per hour on I-99 and I-80 in Centre County.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region through 4 p.m. Western portions of Centre and Blair counties could get 4-6 inches of snow, while more eastern areas, including the State College area, were expected to receive 2-4 inches.

State College, Bellefonte, Penns Valley, Bald Eagle and Philipsburg-Osceola school districts all closed schools for the day and canceled after-school activities. Schlow Centre Region Library announced it will close at 5 p.m.
