Penn State ‘would like to have students better prepared’ before they enter college, university President Graham Spanier said Tuesday on CNN.
According to a network-supplied transcript, Spanier agreed with ‘CNN Newsroom’ anchor Ali Velshi that it would be better if more people were going to college. But ‘part of the problem in the U.S. is a kindergarten-through-twelfth-grade problem,’ Spanier added.
If competitive universities were to open their doors more widely, he said, ‘a lot of those students (graduating from the K-12 system) are not going to succeed’ because they are not sufficiently prepared for college.
