State College Facing Two Weekend Storms, Arctic Temperatures Coming

State College residents can expect a weekend of weather woes with two winter storms heading this way.

The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Weather Advisory which will take effect at 7 p.m. Friday and continue through 1 p.m. Saturday.

Fortunately, we’ll only catch the fringes of that storm which is expected to blast New England.

“It’ll be a one-to-three inch storm, but it’s going to be enough to make roads and sidewalks slippery while it’s falling tonight,” says  AccuWeather Meteorologist Paul Walker. “As people are out driving around, you get the wet snow packed onto the road and it gets icy so that’s the largest concern overnight.”

Walker says that some areas of New England could get six to 12 inches from the storm, so State College will dodge a major bullet with tonight’s relatively minor snowfall.

The area won’t, however, be lucky enough to miss out on some arctic weather late in the weekend.

“There’s another storm moving into the Centre region late Sunday afternoon that could continue into Monday,” Walker says. “My guess would be two to four inches, maybe slightly more, but some very cold air will follow the storm.”

According to Walker we’ll see a high of 25 degrees on Monday and 21 degrees on Tuesday. Temperatures will dip into the single digits on both nights, hitting just two degrees on Monday and three on Tuesday.

With the wind chill, State College can expect temperatures to feel like they’re below zero early next week, so be sure to bundle up if you’re out and about.
