Friday, Sept. 23

Movies 

In ‘Abduction,’ a thriller, a man finds his baby photo on a missing-persons website, setting him on a mission to uncover the truth about his life. This film is showing this weekend at the College 9 Theatre and the UEC 12 Theater.

‘Contagion,’ an action-thriller about a deadly disease outbreak and an international team of doctors fighting it, is continuing to show at the College 9 Theatre and the UEC 12 Theater.

The classic ‘Bonnie and Clyde,’ featuring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, is scheduled for multiple showings Friday at the State Theatre, part of the theater’s Friday Favorites series.

Food

 The State College Downtown Farmers Market continues on Locust Lane (across from the HUB lawn) between College Avenue and Beaver Avenue. The market is held Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Most of the fruits and vegetables sold are seasonal. Some of the vendors sell baked goods, canned goods and crafts all season long. All vendors produce or grow what they sell.

Sports

The Penn State women’s soccer team will take on Northwestern at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field.

The State High Little Lions football team will play Cumberland Valley High School at 7 p.m. at Memorial Field, State College.

Bars and Clubs

At Otto’s Pub and Brewery in State College, the Sveltones will play starting about 10 p.m.

The Autoport in State College will have happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m.  

At Bar Bleu in State College, happy hour will run from 9 to 11 p.m. Lowjack will play starting at 10:30 p.m.

In Toftrees, the Down Under Steakhouse will host happy hour from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Bethanne and Dick will play at 8 p.m. And at the Gingerbread Man in State College, DJ Boner will entertain starting at 10 p.m.; happy hour will run from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday, Sept. 24

Community Events

The Milesburg Museum and Historical Society will host an Apple Harvest Festival and Car Show from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Market Street. An old-fashioned breakfast is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.; car-show registrations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Community Center in Madisonburg will host the Brush Mountain Bluegrass Band for a 3:30 p.m. concert.

Sports

The Penn State football team will take on Eastern Michigan at Beaver Stadium. The game is slated for a noon kick-off at Beaver Stadium. Full Penn State football coverage is available through StateCollege.com’s football page.

Sunday, Sept. 25

Community Events

The annual Wedding Showcase, in its fourth year, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. Sponsored by the Jordan Center, StateCollege.com and Altoona.com, the show has become a preeminent destination for brides- and grooms-to-be. It features more than 70 top-tier, high-quality vendors; prizes; and a fashion show.

Three local bands — Dreams and Bones, Poor Folk and SkyTop Blues — will appear as part of the Shaver’s Creek Music Festival in Petersburg. It’s scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

The third annual WPSU Wine Festival is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. Tickets for this fundraiser, to support public broadcasting, are available online.

Pennsylvania Forest Fest, to help mark the International Year of Forests, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arboretum at Penn State. Music and exhibits are planned as part of the gathering, hosted by the university School of Forest Resources.

Sports

The Penn State women’s soccer team will take on Illinois at 1 p.m. at Jeffrey Field.
