A Pennsylvania State Police Trooper was shot and killed Friday night in Huntingdon County, and police are continuing the search for his alleged killer.

Trooper Landon Weaver was killed while investigating a protection from abuse order violation at a residence on Bakers Hollow Road in Juniata Township, near Raystown Lake, at about 6:30 p.m.

Police are searching for suspect Jason Robison (pictured), 32, of Hesston. He is considered armed and dangerous. Police said it is believed his hair is dyed purple.

Homicide charges have been filed and an arrest warrant obtained. In a release at about 4 a.m., police said troopers and the Special Emergency Response Team were at the scene of the shooting and law enforcement were also searching other locations.

Weaver enlisted in the state police in December 2015 and was assigned to the Patrol Unit at Troop G in Huntingdon. He is the 97th member of the Pennsylvania State Police to be killed in the line of duty.

Governor Tom Wolf issued a statement on Weaver’s death Friday night:

“On behalf of all Pennsylvanians, Frances and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Trooper Weaver and all members of the State Police across Pennsylvania in this moment of tragedy. Landon will always be remembered for his bravery, his sacrifice, and his willingness to serve.

“The State Police are our best and bravest Pennsylvanians, who risk their lives to keep all of our families safe. I just spoke with Commissioner Tyree Blocker and have full confidence that the person who committed this senseless act of violence will be captured and brought to justice. As the search continues, all of our law enforcement officers involved are in the thoughts of all Pennsylvanians.”

Wolf also ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff through Jan. 3 at public buildings throughout the commonwealth.

Robison, meanwhile, has been arrested numerous times in Huntingdon County dating back to 2005, according to court records. He had two active cases against him. On Dec. 6 he was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving without a license stemming from an alleged October incident. He was released on $10,000 bail and a formal arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 2.

In April he was charged with unlawful restraint, simple assault and physical harassment. Those charges were bound over to county court. Jury selection in that case is scheduled for March.
