Elementary students from all over Centre County flocked to the Penn State Arboretum Friday morning to celebrate Arbor Day.

While Arbor Day is traditionally a day for tree planting, students were instructed in not only the importance of trees in the environment but animals as well. Students took part in various activities and demonstrations to learn about the environment and wildlife in the area.

The Arboretum at Penn State was built on an undeveloped, 370-acre parcel of land immediately adjacent to the University Park campus. The Arboretum is open from dawn to dusk and has plenty of volunteer opportunities for anyone in the State College area.
