The 2011 Summer Jazz Celebration, presented by JazzPA, will bring live jazz to historic Bellefonte for several days — starting Thursday, the organization announced.
On Saturday, the celebration’s busiest day, internationally known jazz musician Warren Vache, on trumpet, is set to perform with the Russ Kassoff Trio, Jay Anderson and Dennis Mackrel at the American Philatelic Society, at the old match factory. They will play two sets Saturday evening; tickets will be $15 apiece.
Specific ticket and event information is available through the JazzPA website. Vache also is scheduled to to offer a free, one-hour master class Saturday afternoon at the High Street Stage, where he’ll share his knowledge with festival attendees and high school students.
In addition to the American Philatelic Society and the High Street Stage, at the corner of Spring Street, venues for the Summer Jazz Celebration will include Talleyrand Park, the Gamble Mill restaurant, the Governor’s Pub, Cool Beans Coffee and Tea, Cafe on the Park, and the Centre Crest nursing home, according to a news release. Performances are slated for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The celebration’s Friday-evening offerings will include Zeropoint Big Band with Rick Hirsch at the American Philatelic Society; the price of admission there will be $5 apiece. At the Gamble Mill, the Billy Test Group will perform.
Others scheduled to play during the celebration include The Tarnished Six; The Friends Band with vocalist Catherine Dupuis; the Arthur Goldstein Quartet with Steve Bowman; JT Blues; and Megalodon with Greg Johnson and Charlie Heim; and saxophonist Kevin Supina’s Supercell. Some jazz students from area high schools are set to perform, as well.
