TGIF: State College Weekend Events for March 8-10

Happy Friday, Happy Valley!

Check out the wide range of events to enjoy this weekend, including the Harlem Globetrotters, an alpaca showcase, concerts, comedy, sports and much more. We’ve compiled some of the highlights below.

Harlem Globetrotters
Bringing their signature humor and amazing basketball feats, the Original Harlem Globetrotters take to the Bryce Jordan Center court at 7 p.m. Friday. The Fan Powered World Tour will have more than 20 occasions before, during and after the game where to directly interact with Globetrotters stars. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Wise Crackers Comedy Club
Wise Crackers’ comedy season continues at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Basement Night Spot, 112 W. College Ave. This week features LeighAnn Lord, headliner Michael Harrison and MC Marc Staudenmair. Tickets are $20.

Penn State Hockey
The Nittany Lion men’s hockey team hosts a Big Ten Tournament opening round series against Wisconsin, with game 1 at 8 p.m. Friday in Pegula Ice Arena. Game 2 is at 6 p.m. Saturday and game 3, if necessary, will be at 6 p.m. Sunday. Ticket info.

Alpaca Showcase
The Centre County Grange Fairgrounds will host the Pennsylvania Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association Showcase from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hundreds of alpacas will compete in different categories and a youth competition will include showmanship, agility, obstacle courses and more. Visitors will be able to learn about the alpaca industry, talk to breeders and meet the alpacas up close. Artisans will display alpaca fiber and examples of felting and fiber arts, with vendors and farm displays selling alpaca fashions and hand-crafted items. Miss Pennsylvania USA 2019 Kailyn Marie Perez will make a special appearance on Saturday. Free and open to the public.

Charter Day Weekend at the Military Museum
The Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg will commemorate the founding of Penn’s Woods in 1681 with free admission this weekend. Guided tours and hands-on history stations will entertain and help visitors discover lesser-known stories of the past. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday.

Bellefonte Parents Night Out
Children ages 5-12 can enjoy a fun night at the Bellefonte YMCA while parents get some time of their own. Children will enjoy organized games, snacks and Pizza Mia Pizza from 5-8 p.m. Saturday. $10 for members and non-members. Register here.

Town Mountain
Renowned bluegrass band with a honky tonk edge Town Mountain heads to Elk Creek Cafe & Aleworks for an 8 p.m. show on Saturday.

Penn State Basketball
The Nittany Lion men’s basketball team closes out the regular season with a Senior Day game against Illinois at noon on Sunday in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Piano Recital Series
Boal Mansion Museum’s piano recital series continues with ‘Spanish Serenade,’ featuring pianist Francisco Montero at 3 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds will be used to restore instruments in the museum’s collection, including the 1922 Steinway Grand piano and a 19th-century concert harp discovered recently in the mansion basement. Marcus King Band
Singer, songwriter and guitarist Marcus King and his band bring their ‘soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock’ to the State Theatre for an 8 p.m. show on Sunday.
