UPDATE: I-99 Lanes Reopen Near Shiloh Road

UPDATED @ 3:41 p.m. Friday: One southbound lane of Interstate 99 — the left lane — is now open, as well, PennDOT announced. The southbound detours have been lifted.

The right southbound lane is expected to reopen within a few hours, according to PennDOT. its latest statement is online on this page.

UPDATED @ 2:54 p.m. Friday: PennDOT has reopened the northbound lanes of I-99 and lifted the northbound detours, the department announced.

Meanwhile, the southbound lanes of I-99 are expected to reopen about 7 p.m. Friday, according to the latest announcement. It’s posted online on this page.

UPDATED @ 11:20 a.m. Friday: PennDOT now expects to reopen I-99 by 3 p.m., according to an updated announcement from the department. As of 11:20 a.m., both northbound and southbound lanes in the area of the wreck remained closed.

UPDATED @ 10:27 a.m. Friday: The Friday-morning crash that led to the I-99 closure apparently happened in the southbound lanes, PennDOT spokeswoman Marla Fannin said.

She said the accident involves a tanker truck and a fire.

One person is presumed to have died, according to a Centre Daily Times report.

All lanes of traffic have been closed as a safety precaution, Fannin said. Drivers in the area earlier reported delays of as much as an hour.

Fannin said PennDOT is aiming for at least a partial I-99 reopening at 1 p.m.

UPDATED @ 9:04 a.m. Friday: The Interstate 99 closure remained in effect as of 9 a.m., PennDOT reported in an updated announcement. The department expects to reopen the road by 1 p.m., according to the announcement.

PennDOT also has announced a number of additional detours for motorists who otherwise would be using I-99. They’re outlined in this online statement.

Earlier report, posted @ 7:53 a.m. Friday:

North- and southbound lanes of Interstate 99 have closed Friday morning near State College, the state Department of Transportation reported. It cited a multi-vehicle crash.

The closure is in effect between the Shiloh Road and the Bellefonte/Route 150 exits, according to a news release. Morning commuters should expect to find detours and travel delays, it says.

Northbound traffic is being rerouted at Shiloh Road onto state Route 150, then back onto I-99 at the first Bellefonte interchange, according to the release. Southbound traffic, likewise, is being rerouted onto state Route 150, then back onto I-99, too.

PennDOT plans to reopen I-99 later today, according to the department.
