State College Police said they are investigating whether a can of chemicals was left on purpose on Sowers Street on Tuesday night.
Police were called to the scene around 6:40 p.m., where they responded to a report of spilt chemicals coming from a cracked container on the curb behind Sharkies Bar and Thrifty Bottle Shop, 110 Sowers St., police said. The container did not explode but police said they have reason to believe it was meant to.
A passerby had spotted the container and alerted authorities, police said.
Labeled a ‘suspicious package,’ police were aided by Alpha Fire Company, the Penn State Hazmat team and Penn State bomb squad.
No one was hurt and police said there is no present danger to the area.
