Editor’s Note: This is the sixth part in a six-part series highlighting missing persons cases in Centre County.
Jennifer Cahill-Shadle vanished without a trace earlier this year.
But Cahill-Shadle’s case is not the only one investigators have been pursuing — sometimes for many years. Cahill-Shadle joins a group of missing persons connected to Centre County including Joey Lynn Offutt, Ray Gricar, Hyun Jong “Cindy” Song, Dawn Marie Miller and Brenda Louise Condon.
Foul play is suspected in some instances, but in all of these cases, whatever happened remains a mystery.
State College residents likely remember these high-profile cases and may have information that can help answer the unknown.
This is the story of Brenda Louise Condon.
Condon, 28, was last seen while she was working at Carl’s Bad Tavern (now Home Delivery Pizza) at 1796 Zion Road in Spring Township.
Witnesses reported last seeing her about 12:45 a.m. Feb. 27, 1991. Later that day, employees arrived to find the bar empty and unlocked. Condon’s boots were discovered in the men’s room and her car was still in the parking lot.
Since then, authorities have been attempting to identify three patrons seen in the bar that night. They released composite sketches of the men who may know what happened to Condon. Still, 23 years later, no one has come forward and identified the men.
Spring Township Police Department handled the initial investigation. Years later it was transferred to state police at the request of Spring Township. Trooper Brian Wakefield with the Rockview station took on the case around 2008.
“Several leads have come in or possible tips that we have followed up on. They’ve all unfortunately led us nowhere closer,” says Wakefield.
Authorities also submitted DNA to national databases to see if it will match an unidentified person or remains.
