Weekend road work will take place on North Atherton Street, overnight paving is scheduled for two roads and the Potters Mills Gap project will shift to an around-the-clock schedule.

Here’s a look at what’s happening in the coming days with PennDOT road work in Centre County.

North Atherton Street

As the multi-year North Atherton Street project continues, some work will take place on Saturday and Sunday. A new sewer line will be installed during daylight hours between North Hills Place and Cherry Lane. At least one lane in each direction will remain open for traffic.

Additionally, a long-term pattern change, with the far left lane closed, remains in place heading toward University Park from West Aaron Drive to North Hills Place. While the contractor is working,  traffic will be reduced to a single lane for outbound traffic. When the contractor is not working, two lanes will remain open for inbound and outbound traffic. Left turns are restricted through the length of the work zone.

From Cherry Lane to Park Avenue, Verizon is continuing relocation work. Traffic control includes daytime lane closures with one lane open in each direction.

The entire project is taking place through 2019 in phased work zones from Aaron Drive to Park Avenue.

Overnight paving

Crews will continue milling and paving of Route 322 from Boalsburg to Big Spring Creek. Work will take place between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Friday, Aug. 3. The work was scheduled to take place July 23-27 but was delayed because of weather.

Starting on Sunday, milling will take place Route 26/East College Avenue from East Calder Way (at the juncture with East Beaver Avenue) in State College to Elmwood Street in College Township. This work also will occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., through Aug. 3.

Potters Mills Gap

Roadway work for the Potters Mills Gap project on Route 322 will resume at 7 p.m. on Sunday with a change in work schedule and a detour for westbound traffic.

Through Aug. 10, work will take place around the clock every day. Drainage work is scheduled along and across Route 322 from the intersection with Route 144 west to Mountain Back Road/Red Mill Road.

To minimize delays, westbound traffic will be detoured off Route 322 at Potters Mills and be directed to use Route 144 north to Old Fort and Route 45 west to Route 322 west at Boalsburg. Flaggers will be in the roadway at the intersection of Route 322 and Route 144 in Potters Mills and at the intersection of Route 144 and Route 45 in Old Fort. Eastbound traffic will remain on Route 322.

Drivers are encouraged to build at least 30 minutes of extra travel time into their schedules.

One mile east of Potters Mills, a crossover between Decker Valley Road and Sand Mountain Road, with one lane available in each direction and an 11-foot width restriction, will remain in place through the fall.
