The Centre Region could see its first measurable snowfall of the winter Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
A winter weather advisory in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 8 a.m. Thursday for much of central Pennsylvania, including Centre County, has been issued by the National Weather Service.
The State College area is expected to see 3 to 5 inches as a fast-moving Alberta clipper system brings widespread light to moderate snowfall overnight, according to NWS. Localized amounts in some areas of central Pennsylvania could total up to 6 inches, with the higher amounts forecast to the west.
AccuWeather forecasts 1 to 3 inches of snow for the State College area, with a 15 percent possibility of up to 6 inches and a 22 percent possibility of less than 1 inch.
Snow is expected to develop by 9 p.m. and could fall heavily for a time over night before diminishing between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. and ending around dawn.
Drivers should be prepared for low visibility and snow-packed and slippery roads overnight
