Penn State Men’s Basketball: Carey Booth Requests Release from National Letter of Intent

no description

Penn State men’s basketball is already feeling the impacts of Micah Shrewsberry’s departure as Top 100 forward Carey Booth has requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent. Booth was the headline signing of Penn State’s 2023 recruiting class.

Booth committed to Penn State back in August, choosing the Nittany Lions over Ohio State, Texas, Stanford and Vanderbilt. He is the son of former Penn State standout and current Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth, who holds the school record for career blocked shots with 428.

The exit could mark the first of three as the Nittany Lions look to hang on to Logan Imes as well as Shrewsberry’s own son Braeden. Time will tell what each decide to do, but Shrewsberry seems – by logic alone – likely to follow his father to Notre Dame, while Imes could opt to simply look for a program with a more certain future.

In either case, Penn State’s next head coach will have their hands full with rebuilding the Nittany Lions’ roster. Guard Dallion Johnson and forward Caleb Dorsey both recently entered the transfer portal while the exits of seniors Andrew Funk, Camren Wynter, Jalen Pickett and Myles Dread only add to the departures list. Senior Seth Lundy, who had one season of eligibility remaining, declared for the NBA Draft and will not return for his extra season.

“We are already moving forward in a search for a new head coach and will identify and appoint a tremendous coach, teacher and person, who will take us to unprecedented heights,” Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Pat Kraft said in a statement following Shrewsberry’s departure.
