Three-star defensive end Kaleb Artis announced via Twitter on Sunday night that he’s committing to Penn State, becoming the fifth recruit to join James Franklin’s 2022 recruiting class over the last three days and third on Sunday alone.
“I wanna start of by saying thank you to all who offered and showed me any interest and I want to say thank you to the man above, none of this would’ve been possible without God by my side as well as my parents, family, friends, and all others who showed much support,” Artis said.
Hailing from Fresh Meadows, New York, where he attends St. Francis Preparatory School, Artis chose Penn State over Auburn and Rutgers, among others.
In 11 varsity games so far in high school, Artis has totaled 54 tackles, six sacks, and a forced fumble, according to his MaxPreps profile.
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Artis is the second-best player in New York and the 63rd-best defensive lineman in the nation among players in the 2022 cycle.
Artis is now the 17th player to join Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class. Among those 17, he’s one of six defensive players, joining Ken Talley, Tyrece Mills, Keon Wylie Zane Durant, and Tyreese Fearbry.
Durant and Fearbry also committed on Sunday, while Wylie pledged on Saturday. The Nittany Lions kicked off the weekend with a commitment by offensive lineman JB Nelson on Friday.
Following Artis’ commitment, Penn State’s 2022 class is ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 3 in the nation, according to 247. The Nittany Lions have bounced back in a big way thus far this cycle after ranking No. 6 in the Big Ten and No. 21 nationally during the 2021 cycle.
