Centre County Adds 21 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 1,493 New Positives
Centre County reported 21 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday — its most in one day since May 25 — to increase its total 17,112, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania had its highest single-day increase in new cases since May 22. The 1,493 new positives bring the commonwealth’s total to 1,230,454.
(On Tuesday, when StateCollege.com did not publish a COVID data update, there were 1,442 new cases statewide, including 10 in Centre County.)
The county also reported 93 negative test results on Wednesday to bring its total to 73,010. Statewide, there were 6,563 new negatives for a total of 4,934,861.
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 228.
With 15 new COVID-19 deaths statewide — the most since June 22 — Pennsylvania’s total is now 27,883.
According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, eight COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County. Two are in intensive care and none are on ventilators.
Statewide, 563 COVID-19 inpatients are hospitalized, unchanged from Tuesday, with 126 in intensive care [+16] and 61 on ventilators.
An estimated 96% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.
As of Wednesday morning, 77,876 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 5,677 are partially covered.
Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
