Obituary of Jared Lee "Jed" Smith, 50

Jared Lee "Jed" Smith, 50 of Mill Hall, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Jed fought a courageous battle with thyroid cancer.

Jed was born in Lock Haven on February 5, 1961. He was the youngest son of Phoebe L. Smith of Mill Hall. Jed attended the Blanchard Elementary School and graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1979. He worked at Penn State University after working at Champion Parts Rebuilders for 21 years. Jed was in the Army Reserves and belonged to the Teamsters Local 8. He was a member of Hillview Wesleyan Church.

Along with his mother, Jed is survived by one brother, Donald W. Smith and wife Dana of Beech Creek and two sisters; Anita R. Williams of Hornell, N.Y. and Debra Houser of New Paris, Pa. Jed had numerous loving nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his cat, Cheetah. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Smith Conklin and grandparents, Charlie H. Smith and Annie Kessinger Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Howard with the Rev. ALan S. Eckenroad officiating. There will be a public visitation Friday, December 30, 2011 from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Christian Cemetery in Blanchard.
