Noodles & Company’s only Centre County location permanently shut its doors on Wednesday after 13 years in business.

According to a sign on its front door, the fast-casual chain restaurant at 244 W. College Ave. in downtown State College is permanently closed. The State College store’s signage has been removed, its phone number has been disconnected and it is no longer listed  on the Noodles & Co. website.

“We’re sorry to say this Noodles location is permanently closed,” the sign reads. “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed serving you and appreciate all your support.”

The sign also included a list of the three closest stores: Harrisburg, Camp Hill and Pittsburgh. Now that its State College restaurant is closed, the company has six operating locations statewide, with over 400 stores nationwide, according to its website.

Noodles & Company, which has been operating since 1995 and opened its store in State College in 2012, specializes in pasta and noodle-based dishes ranging from macaroni and cheese to ramen bowls, as well as soups and salads.

The restaurant’s State College building was long ago a Pizza Hut before becoming the bar Sports Cafe in the late 1990s and later briefly 797 Lounge.

The State College store’s closure seemingly follows an announcement made by Noodles back in August, stating the company planned on closing 28 to 32 company-owned restaurants by the end of the year due to revenue declines, according to USA Today.

Noodles & Company area representatives have declined StateCollege.com’s requests for comment this week.
