It’s Turkey Time: Thanksgiving Week Events

Happy Turkey Day!

It’s time to break out the turkey and stuffing because Thanksgiving is here.

As most students pack up to go home for the holiday, those who call State College home get ready for an eventful week with various Thanksgiving events around town. 

Here’s a rundown of the turkey-related highlights from Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day:

Wednesday

Builders unite.

Kids ranging from five to 13 years old can try out their building abilities by assembling given models or making their own motorized turkey from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Bricks 4 Kidz at Ferguson Square.

Attendees will also get a chance to decorate a Thanksgiving cookie to take home.

Attend a Thanksgiving service.

Enjoy a choir show and speakings from local pastors at the Annual Penns Valley Community Thanksgiving Service. It will be held at Faith Alive Fellowship at 4394 Penns Valley Road from 7 to 9 p.m.

Make a turkey!

Stop by Discovery Day at the Schlow Library with your kids on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can make your own squawking turkey.

Thursday

Exercise for a cause.

Join in on the 3rd annual Boalsburg Turkey Trot 5K run/walk. For $25 you can help benefit the Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy Cross Country and Track Field Program and the Friends of the Pennsylvania Military Museum.

The 5K will start at 9 a.m. at the Pennsylvania Military Museum.

Enjoy a free hot meal.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will be hosting a free hot meal for the public from at 5 to 7 p.m.

As the church puts it, “We believe everybody is welcome and belongs at God’s table — regardless of race, ethnic background, gender identity, sexual orientation, capability, or circumstances of life.”

And then have another.

Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church will also have a free meal available on Thursday. The church’s community Thanksgiving Day dinner will feature turkey and all the trimmings from 3:30 to 6 p.m. 

The church will also provide transportation assistance or meal delivery by calling 814-237-3549. So if you’re not able to have a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, take advantage of this altruistic gift of poultry.
