No New COVID-19 Cases in Centre County for Third Consecutive Day

Centre County’s total number of COVID-19 cases remained unchanged on Thursday, with no new cases reported for the third day in a row. The county has had 154 cases of the virus since the first was reported on March 20.

It marked the first time since April 17-19 that Centre County has gone three consecutive days without a new positive.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, 145 of the county’s cases are confirmed and nine are probable.

Statewide, 537 new cases were reported on Thursday, bringing Pennsylvania’s total to 73,942. It was the 25th consecutive day the state has reported fewer than 1,000 new cases.

Pennsylvania has had 5,817 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, with 75 new deaths added on Thursday. The health department has reported seven COVID-19 deaths for Centre County, but the county coroner’s office has confirmed only six. DOH lists deaths by county of residency, so it is likely a Centre County resident died elsewhere in the state.

An estimated 69 percent of patients with the virus — or about 51,020 Pennsylvanians — have recovered, according to the health department. Among the state’s total cases, ​71,881 are confirmed and ​2,061 are probable.

16828 (Centre Hall), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16841 (Howard), 16875 (Spring Mills), 16852 (Madisonburg) and 16872 (Rebersburg) each have 1-4 cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases. 

In the past two weeks, the county has added 18 new cases.

Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 234 cases, Union has 65, Clinton has 60, Mifflin has 59, Blair has 52 and Clearfield has 42. 

A total of 416,942 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 2,305 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,174 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 257 requiring a ventilator, as of noon on Thursday.
