Philipsburg Man Accused of Attempting to Sell Cocaine in State College

A Philipsburg man is facing felony drug charges after police say they were tipped off by an anonymous caller about a man selling cocaine in the State College area.

According to a criminal complaint, State College Police were contacted on Friday by an anonymous complainant who said a man identified as James D. Williams, 27, was selling crack and powder cocaine in the area. The caller described Williams and identified the vehicle he was driving, which was not registered in Williams’ name.

The caller provided police with two cell phone numbers for Williams and said Williams was expecting a call from a customer named ‘Zack,’ whom the caller said does not exist, to buy cocaine, according to the complaint.

Police say they contacted one of the phone numbers provided and made arrangements to meet Williams at 3:15 p.m. on Friday at the McDonald’s at the Nittany Mall to purchase three one-half gram bags of cocaine for $140. Upon arrival, police reportedly found Williams and a woman in the car identified by the caller. 

The woman, who has not been charged, allegedly waived her rights and told police she had drugs in her bra. Police say she removed a tied off bag containing 11 individually packaged bags on suspected crack cocaine. A sample reportedly field tested positive for cocaine.

With the assistance of a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper and drug detection dog, police say they found a blunt with suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana stem in the vehicle.

After being transported to the State College Police station, Williams allegedly told police the cocaine was his and that the woman was holding it for him.

Williams was charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, one felony count of criminal use of a communication facility, and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

He was arraigned before District Judge Allen Sinclair and bail was set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 12.
