The final pieces of Penn State’s 2027 class are beginning to fall into place.
June was a busy month on the recruiting trail for the Nittany Lions, who secured key additions to bolster their group while losing commitments from some top players. Here’s a recap of the action.
June 8: Long Snapper Clayton Powell
Special teams coordinator Justin Lustig found his long snapper of the future, extending an offer — which was quickly accepted — after watching Powell work out.
Penn State’s second commitment on the 8th came from three-star safety Caleb Cooper out of North Carolina, who brings great size and physicality to the room.
June 9: Cornerback Semajay Robinson (flip)
The first decommitment of the Matt Campbell era came one day later, when three-star cornerback Semajay Robinson flipped his pledge to Virginia.
June 11: Cornerback Zachary Gleason (flip)
A second cornerback flip came just two days later when Gleason departed for West Virginia, which reportedly showed more financial interest than the Nittany Lions.
June 14: Edge Rusher Elijah Guertin
Penn State stopped the bleeding with a major commitment from four-star edge rusher Elijah Guertin, considered the most impressive addition of the month. Guertin is the highest rated prospect out of Rhode Island since 2019, per the 247Sports composite.
June 15: Wide Receiver Jamir Dean (flip)
Wide receivers coach Kashif Moore was building an impressive first haul in Happy Valley, but that quickly crumbled when four-star Jamir Dean flipped to Georgia. Moore had a longstanding relationship with Dean dating back to his UConn days, but the Bulldog blitz was enough to draw him away from his pledge.
Penn State secured its second class of 2028 commitment when kicker Carter Petri joined the party on the 20th. He’s ranked as the No. 7 kicker in the country by Kohl’s Kicking and had other power conference interest.
June 21: Linebacker Case Alexander
The following day, the Nittany Lions picked up a pledge from four-star linebacker Case Alexander, the younger brother of current tight end Cooper Alexander. Case chose Penn State over in-state powerhouse Oklahoma, where his dad played tight end.
June 24: Cornerback Dhillon McGee
After losing two cornerback commits earlier, position coach Terry Smith closed out the month with a big win, adding a commitment from three-star Dhillon McGee. The Nittany Lions beat out in-state finalists Texas and SMU for the pledge.
